Reflexology uses specific techniques, such as the 'thumb walk' on specific points of the feet. This is a deeper massage technique that enables a Reflexologist to 'feel' blockages in the foot that correspond to organs and systems within the body. Manipulation of these blockages, releases the toxins built up, and enables the energetic system of the body to restore balance to the whole body. A Reflexology Treatment also includes general foot massage to aid relaxation.
Therapeutic touch is relaxing, but it is a slightly deeper touch than a solely relaxing massage. The therapeutic touch goes just below the subcutaneous later of the skin, to locate the blockage in the energy point. 'Working' this blockage breaks down the toxin build up and allows the energy to flow again.
The more chronic the condition, the more chance of having a corresponding 'ouch point' when thumb walking over that point on the foot. It should be a momentary and mild ouch. In the same, mild way that you experience an ouch when you rub a tender area of your body. The ouches help a Reflexologist to assess the seriousness of the dis-ease within the body.
I was trained over 20 years ago, before Reflexology was brought under the domain of Beauty Colleges. I was taught never to use cream for the actual treatment as it is too slippery and prevents enough grip for a 'therapeutic touch'.

You will always get immediate benefits of rest and relaxation from a one off session. General medical issues such as hypertension, poor circulation, digestive problems and conditions related to stress and anxiety will improve immediately. The more chronic or long term the condition - the more sessions required to ensure long term improvement.
Absolutely not, if the Reflexologist holds the foot correctly. The grip should be firm and confident. The actual treatment begins with foot relaxation techniques which get the foot used to being held and manipulated. In 20 years of practice I have NEVER had a ticklish reaction from a client, even when they have said prior to the session that they were extremely ticklish.
Yes. Skeletal conditions require regular, more long term treatment because bone takes more time to improve and strengthen. You should certainly get relief from the pain caused by inflammation in muscle around the spine quickly.
These are follow up sessions after the initial 'treatment' sessions are completed. So once the chronic symptoms have eased, I would generally recommend on-going monthly sessions as a preventative measure to stop the recurrence of the condition and maintain good physical health.
